Founded in 2007, UNLV Rebel Racing has been designing, manufacturing, innovating, and competing for almost twenty years. Our team is a student-run, non-profit organization located right on campus at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Our team designs and manufactures a single-seat, off-road vehicle to compete in the Baja SAE Collegiate Design Series. What sets Rebel Racing apart is its diverse and collaborative membership. Students from Engineering, Business, Computer Science, and many other disciplines work side by side, combining their skills to achieve a common goal. From freshmen to seniors, every member gains valuable hands-on experience in design, manufacturing, teamwork, and leadership.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Baja SAE chapter is a completely student-operated club and non-profit organization located right on UNLV’s campus. Members of the club are fully responsible for designing and fabricating our Baja race car as well as obtaining sponsorships, fundraising, marketing, and managing social media accounts. The team aims to attend the three annual Baja SAE competitions where we compete against over 100 teams from universities around the globe. In recent years we have placed in the top twenty to top ten of teams in a variety of categories, and we aim to reach new heights as well as innovate even further as a team every year.

Rebel Racing reflects the UNLV spirit, bringing together students from different backgrounds and fields of study to achieve a common goal. This mix of perspectives strengthens teamwork and drives innovation throughout the organization. Equally important is our commitment to hands-on technical development. We pride ourselves on producing components in-house, giving members continual experience with machining and advancing skills in additive manufacturing. By uniting design with fabrication, students gain practical knowledge that prepares them for careers in modern engineering, industry, and business. Each year, new members are welcomed into this process, ensuring knowledge is passed on and the team continues to grow stronger.
Baja SAE is a collegiate design series competition where students from hundreds of universities around the globe design, manufacture, and race single-seat, off-road vehicles. Baja SAE is run by the organization, SAE International, giving students the chance to experience real-world engineering and business scenarios they may encounter in the recreational vehicle market.
Baja SAE puts on three competitions annually, located in different states across the U.S. These competitions consist of four days of events such as static and dynamic events. These static events consist of a cost report evaluation, business presentation, and design presentations. On the other hand, the dynamic events include acceleration tests, a maneuverability course, hill climbs, as well as a suspension and traction track. Lastly, the competition weekend ends with a four-hour endurance race where all of the eligible vehicles race wheel-to-wheel and compete for first prize. In each of these events, teams have the opportunity to win awards for their achievements.
At UNLV Rebel Racing, one of our main goals as a team is to design the highest quality systems and components for our vehicle. Not only does this allow for us to be competitive in the Baja SAE series, but it also allows for team members to gain valuable experience designing successful and high-quality designs on their own.
Our second main goal is to manufacture our vehicle components in-house. All components of our off-road race car are designed and manufactured by members of our team. This not only allows for students to gain hands-on manufacturing experience, but it also allows for us to ensure high-quality components are used for our vehicle.
UNLV Rebel Racing has a proven track record of success in the collegiate racing competition series, Baja SAE. Our team has achieved numerous awards and recognition for innovative vehicle design and engineering excellence. We continuously strive to improve our performance and uphold our precise and excellent reputation.
